Nurse gets justice after approaching Labour Court

A nurse working in a private Delhi hospital gets relief after she approached the Labour Commissioner through Pravasi Legal Cell complaining about violation of human rights and labour rights.

Ms. Bonny Sunny was employed as a nurse in a private hospital in Delhi for more than a year. Last month she fell down at the hostel managed by the hospital while moving out for duty and sustained injuries. She was admitted in the same hospital and was advised to have bed rest for about three months by the doctors.

But when she applied for leave the authorities at the hospital were not willing to accept the application or grant her leave. Instead, she was forced repeatedly to wait for long hours with the application for leave. Eventually, she sent a legal notice to the hospital, but without any favorable result.

Finally, she filed a complaint with the Labour Commissioner through Pravasi Legal Cell pointing out the violation of Human rights and Labour laws. The complaint stated that since the accident occurred during the course of employment, she was entitled to receive paid leave. Subsequently, the hospital responded to Mr. Bony and granted her three months medical leave along with salary for the time that she was unable to perform duties.
