PLC submits representation seeking urgent intervention against exorbitant air fares in these Covid-19 pandemic times
PLC submits representation before Hon’ble Ministry of Civil Aviation seeking urgent intervention against exorbitant air fares in these Covid-19 pandemic times.
Pravasi Legal Cell through its President, Adv. Jose Abraham has submitted a representation before the Ministry of Civil Aviation in the wake of reports that airline companies in particular the national carrier Air Indiais charging exorbitant fares from Indian expatriates for travel in these Covid-19 pandemic times.
Pravasi Legal Cell (PLC) decided to submit the representation, after receiving numerous grievances from financially weak Indian Expatriates, who are finding it very difficult to bear the astronomically high travel expenses.
In the instant representation, PLC, has raised concerns about this tactic of airline companies to gain unjust enrichment in times when they are expected to adopt a humanitarian policy. Newspaper reports regarding this malpractice of Air India has also been cited in the representation.
The representation urges the Ministry to ensure that in the second phase of the flagship Vande Bharat Mission, Air India functions with more social commitment and desist from seeing the current crisis as an opportunity to mint money.
The representation also states that the purpose of the aforementioned mission to give priority in the repatriation process to all who have compelling reasons such as job loss, will be defeated if the government does not rein in this inhumane approach of airline companies to charge exorbitant fare in these challenging times.
We hope this representation brings the desired relief to the Indian expatriates in particular who are unable to travel due to the exorbitant airfare.
